Dear fist pump: please die. kthxbai

I never thought I’d say this as a die-hard Dodger fan, but sorry Kirk Gibson. The fist pump needs to go.

I should’ve seen this coming once the cast of Jersey Shore brought the fist pump out of the sports arena and into the nightclub. Now this:

The fist pump looks to be overtaking the classic high five - and as a society, we simply can’t let that happen.

So the next time you get the urge pump your fist(s) in delight, think about your children. And your childrens’ children. Then decide if you want to pump your fist, or if a simple appreciative clap will do.

$6 Bay Bridge toll sucks, so does BART

I really do feel like a grandpa complaining about shit like this, but it has to be said. The Bay Bridge is a mess. Caltrans is a sham of an organization, years past due and billions of dollars over-budget (one time, my friend Jim and I were driving across and saw Caltrans workers playing fucking poker in a closed off Bay Bridge lane. Really??).

So now, we - the taxpayers - have to bail them out, and bridge toll is officially hitting $6 tomorrow.

Awesome.

What happened to a single dollar hike to $5? Nope, we blew right past that one. Unless you’re an out of towner who is crossing the bridge during non-commute hours. You get to pay less. But commuters who use the bridge the most get shafted. And no discounts for FasTrak users.

Fine, I’ll deal. I work in Berkeley, so I bike and take BART trans-Bay. All is well and good, right?

Wrong.

BART isn’t much better. It’s over-priced and always late. New Yorkers would scoff at the efficiency of BART. It’s consistently delayed (like, every day. You honestly never know what time you’re going to get to your destination) and costs almost as much as driving (the NYC subway is very reasonably priced). Thankfully my company pays for my BART fees, but others aren’t so lucky. Oh, and recently BART announced a budget surplus. So for four months we might get a 3% fare discount. Oh, joy! I save almost 22 cents, roundtrip. Shopping spree!

I don’t really have a point here, other than the fact that trans-Bay commuters get screwed…again. Sigh.

I love making coffee art. But it’s become an obsession to create the perfect cup. So I can never truly enjoy it.
